legislative preview

I knew beforehand that anyone who is a U.S. citizen can become a state legislator. but there were a lot of things i didn't know such as the age limit, 21. i didn't know you could be that young. i also didn't know that many legislators were in agriculture in the early years. nowadays people from all walks of life are in the House and Senate of South Dakota. people such as teachers, homemakers, doctors, and businessmen. in recent years, more and more women are in the state legislature. this goes to show that everyone is being represented so everyone can be heared.

1. hard money is raided and soft money is donated

3.in a closed primary only people of the same party can vote, in open, anyone can vote

test

1.  Provide a paragraph on an important issue of your choice from Section 1:
In the early years of this country, only white, land-owning, adult, males were allowed to vote. Presumably because they were the only ones who were deemed capable. however, after years of progress and suffrage now any American citizen over 18 can vote for anything.
2.  Provide a paragraph on an important issue of your choice from Section 2:
it used to be that voting could be taxed. so so only did you need to be the right type of person, you also had to have enough money to vote. nowadays this has become an old and unnecessary way of thinking and even someone completely broke can voice his/her opinion.
3.  Provide a paragraph on an important issue of your choice from Section 3:
the 15th amendment was a bid step in our nations history. this was the amendment that allowed blacks the right to vote. however even though the could, apathy in congress and racial tension in the south made this a moot point for a long time.
4.  Provide a paragraph on an important issue of your choice from Section 4:
in ancient Athens an "idiot" was someone who didn't vote. it is now synonymous with someone who is stupid, and that what people who don't vote are. because no mater what anyone says, every vote does count. and a voting opportunity wasted is a lifetime chance wasted.
5. Explain voter apathy and what can be done to help it:
voter apathy is when people don't care about voting. they think that so many people vote anyway that their one vote won't make a difference. but the more people think that, the more they don't vote, and if that many people don't vote then the results change.
6. Explain the qualifications for registering to vote:
to vote you need to be a legal U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.

reps & dems

Democrats: the democratic party was founded on the idea that people of wealth and privilege shouldn't be automatically entitled to rule. The Democratic National Convention began the Democratic National Committee in 1848. It has become the longest running political organization in the world. The Convention gave the committee the job of promoting the party causes between the conventions and also preparing for each of the next conventions.
Republicans: The Republican party was founded out of the conflicts regarding the expansion of slavery into the new Western territories.  The party took on the mission of saving the Union and destroying slavery during the American Civil War and over Reconstruction. In the election of 1864, it united with pro-war Democrats to nominate Lincoln on the National Union Party ticket.

In the past I guess I supported the Republican party mainly because of the fact that that was what my parents were. But even so I do believe in some Democratic principles as well. The Republicans seem to be very critical of basically everyone who doesn't agree with them and the Democrats don't seem to want to do anything about it. basically they are both idiots as of late so i would probably register as an independent.

with midterms over it would seem that republicans won many seats in both the Senate and House that they didn't have before. they now have the majority on the House of Representatives, and a stronger hold on the senate. In S.D, republicans Kristi  Noam, and Dennis Daugaard won the house seat and Governor position respectively.
The speaker of the house also seems to be changing from democrat Nancy Pelosi, to republican John Boehner, showing the the house will likely move to a more Republican agenda. with all the new republicans in the house and senate, and with a democratic president still in charge of things, things will get complicated.

sec1
1. the framers of the constitution clearly did not want a British form of govt. So the decided on a form called federalism were the power of the govt. would be limited and equal among the states
2.the national govt has delegated powers. these are powers granted  solely by the constitution. the include expressed, implied, and inherent powers.
sec2
1.the constitution requires that the govt.  guarantee each state a republican form of govt. The constitution and the supreme court doesn't define what that  means but it is understood to mean a representative govt.
2. Federalism is a dual system of govt. Two basic levels operate over the same people and territory at the same time. this undoubtedly causes tension and conflict.
sec3
1.states can't enter into any alliance. They can however enter into interstate compacts among themselves and foreign states. more that 200 compacts are now in force and they involve many states.
2.the Privileges and Immunities clause states that no state can draw unreasonable distinctions between its own residents and other people who happen to live in other states.

federalism assignment

1. a system of government in which a constitution divides government on a territorial basis; to me it means each part of the government havign its own rules

2.Expressed powers-delegated to the national govt. in so many words; Implied powers- not expressly stated but are suggested; Inherent powers- belong to the national govt. because it is the govt. of a soveriegn state within the world community

3.The national powers have their own delegated powers, the states have reserved powers, and they share concurrent powers; this is important so that niethe the national govt nor the states get to much power

4.it is a clause in the constitution and makes the constitution the highest form of law

5. http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_fedr.html this site thoroughly explained federalism very well

What are your views on the latest political ads on TV? What candidate(s) do you like or dislike and why? What role do you feel that you will play in politics and government in the future? What ways are you participating currently?

i am getting really sick and tired of all the smear campaigns. spending money on ads that just bag on the opponent, to me, are just a distraction from the fact that they have so few pros.

Ms. Noam  has run a lot of these and it has not impressed my one bit.

the only role i will play in politics in the future will probably be just voting. no buttons, no signs, just leave my to my business.

i am not participating in politics currently because as i said i would probably just vote and i am not of voting age yet.
